Experiential Prayer

Prayer Spaces can take on many different forms.  The two most common approaches are permanent spaces within a church or camp building, and temporary spaces built around a theme for a season, camp or retreat.

Prayer Spaces are made up of interactive experiential prayer stations.  These stations can be based on passages of Scripture, ancient prayer practices, creative prayer practices and/or a theme.

Prayer Spaces are a great way to introduce silence, solitude, contemplative prayer, and experiental prayer to your church or students.  These spaces allow each individual to explore at their own pace in a quiet, soothing atmosphere.

Prayer Tables

Some prayer stations can be tables on which there is a way to interact with a particular passage of Scripture or concept.  These can be designed to fit your specific needs.  These prayer tables are often done in some sort of sequence or grouping, allowing more people to be able to enjoy the space at once.  If your space is limited, these can also be designed to change monthly (or periodically) until you are finished with that particular theme or concept.

Other Prayer Stations

Examples of other prayer stations that T.A.G. has done include a station "At the Foot of the Cross" where participants can sit or kneel and respond to Jesus, "Gifts of God" station where participants are invited to open a gift from God such as mercy, love or belonging, and a rest station where participants are encouraged to consider Jesus' words from Matthew 11.

Prayer stations often involve creating something either as part of the prayer or in response to the prayer.  We've found that people particular respond to using art supplies with their prayers.  Journaling or writing poetry is also a popular expression.  Because these creative expressions are used, participants have the option of sharing their prayers with others in unique ways that build community within a group even if the participants aren't experiencing the stations together.
